There is a “Newtox” in town, and its name is Jeuveau!

For a review, Jeuveau (which people are referring to as Newtox) is the latest FDA approved neurotoxin designed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the face. In a market with stiff competition with brands such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin; Newtox has a tough hill to climb to not only persuade patients to switch, but to show that it is either as effective, if not better, than brands that patients have grown accustom to. In a previous blog, I go into depth on what Jeuveau is which you can read about here, so I won’t bore you today with those details. Also, feel free to visit the Jeuveau website for more info here.

Today I would like to discuss what we have found so far since Jeuveau  has hit the market. Since incorporating Newtox into our practice, we have probably administered between 40 and 50 treatments to various patients. So what follows is our anecdotal account on how it has been working.

Newtox, a new treatment for a new century.

Before we begin, it bears mentioning that this is a brand-new product manufactured with modern technology and processes. Let’s compare it to Botox, since that is a name most of us recognize. Botox was formulated and created in the 1980s. It is shipped frozen in a crystalline form until it is reconstituted in the office. Little has changed in the 30 years since its creation, as it has stayed pretty much the same.

Newtox, on the other hand, was developed using modern technology and processes that didn’t exist 30 years ago. It is shipped refrigerated and is never frozen. In my opinion, it appears to be a “fresher,” more modern product. While newer isn’t necessarily better, there has been a lot of changes in the past 30 years and Newtox has taken advantage of those changes to produce a newer, fresher, more affordable product.

Newtox, what are patients saying?

Without a doubt, patients are loving Newtox! We felt it was very important to follow up with patients after administering the product to see if they were having any side effects or complications, and to see what early results they were having. Without exception, everyone has loved this product!

The most exciting thing that patients are telling us is how quick Newtox is setting in. I have had several patients tell me that they began seeing results within 2 days of administration. One patient called me excited that she had started seeing results the very next day after treatment, which is unheard of with some of the other neurotoxins out there.

Patients are also telling us that it is a “softer” feel than Botox or Dysport. Sometimes neurotoxins can feel heavy as they kick in. It doesn’t appear that Newtox (Jeuveau) is doing this as much. We are hearing terms like “softer,” “lighter,” and “fresher” from patients.

Lastly, and most importantly, we have not seen any abnormal side-effects from Newtox. A few patients have had some bruising (which is normal), and one patient came back in for a touch up a couple of weeks later. Other than that, there have been no complaints from patients.

Newtox, what else do we need to know?

When evaluating a new product, I always see what the scientific literature says about it. There is limited scientific research done on Newtox, but what is out there is promising. There is one major study which compares Newtox (again, name brand Jeuveau) to Botox https://academic.oup.com/asj/advance-article/doi/10.1093/asj/sjz110/5428816

That study found that Newtox is a “non-inferior” product to Botox. Looking at the data, nearly every category Jeuveau beat Botox in including onset, duration, and patient satisfaction.

Another important thing about Newtox is that we can offer it at a significant discount when compared to Botox or Dysport. I’m hopeful that this pricing strategy stays put and the company does not decide to increase prices in the future. Talking with our account rep, we were assured that this will not happen. Regardless, right now the pricing is good.

The one thing we are seeing more than anything is happy patients! Patients are truly loving this product, and as such it will always be included in our offerings in the practice.

Is there a downside to Newtox?

So far, we haven’t seen much of a downside to trying out Newtox. The jury is still out on whether it will last as long as Botox…so time will tell. What we do know is that it is just as effective to Botox but can be offered at a significant discount right now. So, if you have ever been interested in smoothing out your facial wrinkles, now is the time to try it out!
